Modern Fall Decorating Ideas for 2022
Warm and neutral tones. Neutral colors are always a safe bet, and combining them with warm tones can help create a cozy, welcoming environment that complements the natural beauty of the season. Fall itself is filled with a combination of vibrant hues, subtle neutrals, and color that never overwhelms. You can bring some of these same tricks into your home by combining neutral shades with bright pops of orange, yellow, and red. Not only will this spice up your living space, it will help to bring that fall feeling indoors as the leaves change outside.
Seasonal artwork. One of the easiest ways to change the tone of your home to match the seasons is by changing out the artwork hanging on your walls. Display seasonal photography or paintings to capture the beauty of the outside world and bring it into your living room, dining room, or bedroom. Play up whatever aspects of the season appeal most to you and your family. Photographs of the changing leaves, paintings of rural landscapes or harvest scenes, or even gourds and other three-dimensional fall objects can really make your interior décor pop. You can even display some spooky artwork if you’re into the Halloween scene.
Cozy everything! That crisp fall air makes us all want to curl up on the couch with a warm drink and our favorite blanket or sweater! Autumn is the perfect time to break out your coziest décor items, which can be as simple as adding a heavy blanket to the foot of your bed or draping some knit throws over the back of your couch or chair. Not only are these décor touches seasonal, they’re also practical. You can pull that throw down and wrap it around yourself as you curl up on the couch in the evening.
Deck the mantel. It might be a little early in the year to build a fire, but you don’t have to wait until Christmas to make your fireplace a focal point of your seasonal décor. You can add a fall wreath above the mantel for an instant pop of color in the living room or fill an empty fireplace with stacked pumpkins. The mantel itself is a perfect place for a seasonal fall display with some dried grasses, decorative gourds, or any other knickknacks you associate with the season.
Autumn florals. April showers may bring May flowers, but plenty of flowers and other plants bloom and thrive in the autumn. Your local florist and farmers market have lots of options, from dried flowers to seasonal grasses. If you want fresh or potted flowers, ask your florist about mums, petunias, or canna lilies. You can even take walks around the neighborhood and gather fall items, such as fallen leaves, acorns, or anything else that you associate with the season.
Vintage finds! There’s nothing better for adding variety to your modern fall decorating ideas than some vintage finds from flea markets, antique shops, and thrift stores! An antique bistro chalkboard can hold your fall-inspired menu ideas, while vintage silver or brass candlesticks for the dining room or mantel add a touch of class. You can even arrange your seasonal flowers in antique copper buckets, tea pots, or other dishware. Look for whatever says “fall” to you. Finding it “in the wild” can be half the fun!
