1. TX-Ture Farm
TX-Ture Farm is known far and wide as the place to make cutting your own Christmas tree a family tradition. Although Christmas on the Farm kicks off Thanksgiving weekend, you don’t have to wait for winter to enjoy fun activities at this local family farm. Besides Christmas trees, the folks at TX-Ture Farm raise alpacas (!) and offer a wide array of fun and educational classes, from soap and candle making to felting and more! Plus, there’s a farm store, where you can pick up unforgettable, authentic souvenirs. TX-Ture hosts beer and wine tastings, too!

Speaking of wine tastings, there’s no better place to sample some of the best wine that the region has to offer than Fortunata Winery, which offers a little taste of Tuscany in North Texas! Besides fine wines (of course), Fortunata also offers wood-fired pizza that must be tasted to be believed, artisan charcuterie boards, and live music almost every week. You can even book a getaway at one of Fortunata’s on-site luxury villas and enjoy the atmosphere from sunup until long after sundown. Fortunata Winery is a 21-and-over establishment, so this is an adventure that isn’t for the kids.
3. ray roberts lake state park
Plenty of adventures are waiting for the whole family at Ray Roberts Lake State Park, though! Ray Roberts Lake is a natural playground just north of Dallas, and it’s filled with all the outdoor activities you could imagine. The park has miles of hiking, biking, and even horseback trails, beach areas for swimming, and numerous campsites where you can spend the night right on the water. You can take a boat or canoe out on the lake, toss in a line on the lake itself or at the kids’ fishing pond, and so much more! Don’t feel like roughing it?
